takeaway-md

Point Claude at a folder of images and get back one structured markdown write-up, every image transcribed faithfully.

Meetings, demos, whiteboards and onboarding flows leave behind a folder of screenshots that nobody reads again. takeaway-md turns that folder into one markdown document you can search, share and act on.

It transcribes rather than paraphrases: prose stays prose, tables become markdown tables, code goes into fenced code blocks, and on-screen UI is written out. Each image gets its own section with a one-line caption saying what it is, so the write-up can always be checked against the original.

It is deliberately self-contained. It knows nothing about any particular app, file format or folder structure; its only inputs are a folder path and the images inside it.

What it does

  • Finds the images. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and HEIC when readable; unreadable files are reported and skipped. Other files and subfolders are ignored, and an empty folder produces nothing.
  • Puts them in order. By the timestamp in the filenames when every file has one, with the time in each heading; otherwise by filename.
  • Asks first for big folders. Over 15 images, it confirms before starting, since processing them all takes a while.
  • Writes as it goes. Each section is appended to <folder>.take-away.md as soon as it is done, so an interruption never loses finished work, and a re-run picks up where it stopped.
  • Summarises last. Once every image is transcribed, it fills in the summary, action items and open questions. Sections with nothing in them are left out.

Use it

Copy the skill folder into your Claude skills directory, then point Claude at a folder: “process the screenshots in ./meeting-notes” or “turn this folder into notes”. It needs Python 3.9 or later for the folder scan.
